Engineering in the field of medicine

With a degree in chemical engineering, Zoe Demou argues that engineers have the right skills for doing medical research.

UNDERGRAD RESEARCH

Alex Siller
Mathematical Model of a Single Ventricle Heart

The object of this research was to determine how the abnormal geometry of a a total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) withstands the stresses and strains to which a normal heart is subjected. The TCPC is used in treating some congenital heart defects. The project’s goal was to develop a computational model of the solid mechanics of a single-ventricle heart.
